HOW TO STYLE A MASTER BEDROOM FOR SUMMER
November 14, 2018 By Southpoint Tuggeranong
As the temperature soars here in Canberra, away go the heavy quilts, and out come the light bed covers, fans and linen! It's always important to change up your interior styling each season, not only to adjust to the weather change, but also because it's important (and fun) to keep your interior styling fresh and relevant. Of course. this doesn't mean you need to spend loads of money changing every aspect of your bedroom. Sometimes all it may need is some new bed linen, cushions, or even a new bed to brighten things up and provide a fresh, new look. Below we have a listed a few ways in which you can give your bedroom a refresh ahead of summer. Believe it or not, when it comes to freshening up your bedroom, it can be a lot easier than you think! BED LINEN Linen Sheets Linen sheets really are ideal for the warmer months as they are the most breathable. While they do wrinkle a little easier, and can be more delicate; you'll most definitely wake up comfy and cool on those hot summer mornings. Lightweight Comforter There is always discussion this time of year surrounding whats best during summer - a quilt, or a lightweight comforter. Opting for a lightweight cover on your bed will ensure that you're kept cool during summer. The last thing you want, is to have a million layers when you're in bed in the heat - so a lightweight comforter is the perfect in-between. It'll also make making the bed a lot easier too! KEEP THE ROOM LIGHT & FRESH Summer is the time for keeping your bedroom light, fresh and airy. Try and declutter as much as you can and look to keep your colour palette neutral. Cool and fresh colours are better in summer and give you a comfy feel in the bedroom. Neutrals are always going to be a timeless solution for any space, especially in a bedroom and can also make it a lot easier for you to style with other elements too! When looking for neutral tones, opt for off-whites, light greys, and ivory. DECLUTTER THE ROOM Declutter your bedroom space to let the summer breezes cool the room effectively. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to do a major spring clean out of your room, to make way for some cross ventilation. If possible, remove rugs from the room, and any excess linen or pillows you may have, to open up the space effectively. Removing these elements will help in cooling the bedroom as well, giving it a cool and tidy appearance. CURTAINS When we think of summer, we think of airy linens, and lightweight cottons. However we forget that we experience a lot more light than darkness, so need to ensure that the bedroom is blocked from the light properly, for the right times of day. If you are looking to change your curtains for summer, just ensure that they are going to block out enough light in the room, so that you're not woken by the sun at 5am! MAKE MOST OF THE NATURAL LIGHT Long summer evenings are the perfect time to recline, and sit back and relax in your bedroom - enjoying the summer light and breeze. Look to create a seating area in your bedroom, near a window. This can be a great place to sit after a long day, or even in the early mornings as the sun is starting to rise. INTEGRATE INDOOR PLANTS INTO YOUR BEDROOM No bedroom is complete without at least one indoor plant. Indoor plants are fantastic for removing toxins in the air, as well as purify the air whilst you sleep. Although bedrooms aren't always the best places for plants because of their lack of lighting (due to curtains and window coverings), when looking to place a plant in your bedroom; ensure that its one that doesn't require full sun. These are just a few ways in which you can restyle a master bedroom for the warmer weather. Remember, that at this time of year - less is more when it comes to styling!
