July 02, 2019 By Southpoint Tuggeranong

It comes around every year like clockwork, but the freezing cold Canberra winter is still a shock to the system. Need a reason to get out of the bed in the morning? These five cafés are worth braving the cold for.

Espresso Room

It’s all in the name: Espresso Room pride themselves on serving only the highest quality coffee made by the best baristas. Whether you like your coffee hot or cold, prefer single origin, filter coffee or want to try the house blends, they’ve got the pour for you.

They use Black Betty from internationally recognised local roasters ONA and stock Adore Tea for all tea lovers out there. They’re popular with public servants, so get in quick if you want to miss the rush!

Southern Grounds

Like a good cup of joe? Southern Grounds offers two house blends: Body, a full-bodied milk-based blend, and the smooth Soul, best for black coffees – but the house rule is that there are no rules when it comes to making a coffee the way you like it.

The kitchen also offers the best of both worlds. If you like a classic, grab a brekky sandwich, French toast or double beef burger, but if you fancy something a little different, why not try the southern smashed avocado with smoky tempeh, the mushroom bruschetta or black bean burger?

Perfect for a weekend coffee and catch up, thanks to their street front shop on Anketell Street near the Lake Tuggeranong cycling circuit. Brew Bar aren’t trying to sell you overpriced hipster brews, but their simple-but-oh-so-good menu is so popular with locals the café is often packed out with regulars.

Their all-day breakfast is packed with the usual favourites, so if you pop by on the weekend you can get yourself a classic Bircher muesli, eggs benedict, or breakfast sandwich.
